The Beautiful Journey of Journaling
So many people have shared the benefits of journaling, and for the longest time, I wanted to get started. But, like many others, I kept putting it off.
Every part of journaling has its own value, but starting with a gratitude list can be a simple way to ease into it. For me, my journal often becomes a space for a complete brain dump. It’s where I let out my worries, reflect on good memories, and vent my frustrations. There’s something liberating about putting everything on paper—it’s like those emotions feel less overwhelming once they’re out of your head.
While I always try to reflect on things I’m grateful for, my journal has become more of a space for releasing everything that’s inside. It’s amazing how much lighter I feel after writing it all down. It may not fix everything, but it certainly helps soften the intensity of those heavier emotions. Somethings to remember when you start-
No Rules, Just Write
The cool thing about journaling is that there are no rules. Some people write about their day, some focus on gratitude, and others, like me, just need a place to vent. You don’t have to do it a certain way—just start writing and see what feels right. You might mix it up over time, and that’s okay!
Be Kind to Yourself
One thing I’ve learned is that you don’t have to journal every single day for it to work. Just write when you feel like it. And if you miss a few days? No big deal! The point is to be kind to yourself and not feel like it’s something you have to do. It’s your space, so you get to decide.
Start Small
If you’ve been putting it off, like I did, here’s something that might help: get a journal you actually like and a pen that makes you want to write. It sounds silly, but it works! Then, just start small. Write whatever’s in your head. No one’s going to see it or judge you, and that’s the best part—you’re doing it for you!
Happy journaling, folks!
